Two nights ago I had the unusual experience of composing an entire letter in a dream. That was a first for me. In this letter I was writing to encourage another mom who was experiencing a situation similar to what my family was presently going through. I pray this letter will speak to your heart as it has spoken to mine.
In the dream, our family of seven had moved temporarily into a tiny high-rise apartment. On the little, elevated apartment balcony overlooking an ocean beach, I began to write...
"I know that the space you are in feels cramped and too small for your family. It seems confining and different from other times in the past. But be encouraged that this is temporary. You will move on as a family from this tight place."
Then, I looked up and gazed upon the sunlit ocean waves foaming onto the sandy beach and breathed in the salty sea air.
Again, I began penning…"Lift your eyes and notice the beauty of this place you are in. There is an elevated viewpoint available when we turn our eyes from our confining circumstances to gain heaven's perspective."
"Soak in the moments that only this season and place can bring. For when you move on, this view that you have here in this tight, temporary space will be left behind. There will be new lovely sights, sounds, and experiences. This outlook, however, is special and specific to this space."
"So be in the present. Enjoy your husband and children. Celebrate the small. Delight, relish, and glean with your family the gold that this passing season holds for you."
When I asked God to give me a verse for my dream, this Scripture came directly to mind.
“For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!” -2 Corinthians 4:17 NLT
“So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.” -2 Corinthians 4:16-18 MSG
